Today was a busy day but enjoyable... even Caleb said he really enjoyed it. In the morning the five of us took a taxi to the hotel where I met Brynn and visited the Tengwang Pavilion.
This afternoon, our guide Mary took the two families to the porcelain shop (I wanted to pick up something for Nyah for the future) then we strolled through a park, where there were playgrounds for adults (kids too, there just aren't many there)... badmitton, exercise equipment, walking paths, etc. It was beautiful and the people were very friendly. And Nyah walked almost the entire time in the park, holding on to a hand but she will be hands free before long.
(Meg... notice the Syracuse U. hat! Though she was wearing it she didn't know what it represented so we filled her in.)
While we all get stared at non-stop when we are out, Caleb draws the most individual attention next to Kara's friend Julie with her blonde hair. I asked him today if he noticed people staring at him and he said no. He was very polite to those who asked him questions and posed for a few pictures in the park.
We then went through a neighborhood food market and went to a Chinese restaurant and for $9 a person left full. It was delicious. We were not very adventurous, recognizing everything put in front of us before we ate. Mary keeps trying to convince Doug that he needs to try pigeon when he gets to Guangzhou - she even said restaurants frequently limit customers to one because it is very popular. Doug says someone can have his.
Nyah had a good day. She is giggling more now but especially with Caleb... she worships him and just lights up when he is around. She also let Doug hold her for a bit today. She is starting to come out of her shell in spurts, touching lightly others that come near her, even strangers in the stores, but keeping close to me and making just a handful of sounds, but that is more than we have heard previously.
Tomorrow Doug, Nyah, and I are taking a very long car trip to Wanzai County to see the area where Nyah was born and lived until Monday. From what I have read, it is quite a poor area and there is not much there (our guide told us to bring lunch) so we will be there likely for only 1/6th of the time we ride in the car but I think it is important.
More tomorrow!
Kate

Wow! I see a cute little girl walking and smiling! It looks like real progress is being made.
What? No pigeon Doug? It probably tastes just like chicken.
Okay, the photos are PRICELESS! I knew it wouldn't take that precious little girl long to let her personality start to shind through. I'm glad you all are enjoying your time there, we are sure missing you here.
Dwayne talked to your mom and she said everything is going fine. Carter came home and told us that "Baby Nyah", we aren't allowed to call her just Nyah is with Brynn's mom and dad and Miss Tammy has even seen her on-line. Too funny.
I hope you get a good nights sleep and I will continue stalking.
P.S.: Would love a post from Doug to hear his side of things, and I vote YES for the pigeon taste testing!!!
It is wonderful seeing you become a family. I am sure she will have another shock when she meets the rest of the crew!
Caleb is doing a great job! I love her expressions when she is looking at him.
Enjoy the time you have together before Doug leaves....seems like you just got there!
I can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip! And of course your arrival home!
Love from the Broughtons!
Nyah is precious & beautiful. Congratulations!!!
I bet everyone in China loves Caleb's red hair!
Loving all the pics, especially the one of Doug and Nyah as well as Nyah grinning at her big bro.
Brynn and Evan are here, Brynn is watching a movie and Evan is having his Wii fix while Maggie is napping. Poor Evan in the way back seat had to really compete to be heard over the 2 "chatty" girls in the middle!
Brynn keeps calling Maggie, "Maggie Mae" which is so funny because I have always heard her call her "Maggie". It is very cute!
They both love the new dog and I am hoping that Price does when he gets off the bus.
Everything is great here...and Evan knows exactly how many days it is until you all come home.
Love and hugs from home~
Wow, so much to take in. I simply love what an integral part Caleb is playing in Nyah's young life! I'm anxious to hear your take on Wanzai and where Nyah hails from. Love the pics and please keep them coming!!
Love,
Stace

I guess you figured out that the above post was from me and not my friend Jennifer. She has no power and I was helping her make a post and I guess I never logged out as her...sorry...too funny!
Thanks for being so good at keeping this up. I am officially addicted to checking for updates. Looks like one happy little girl you have and she is lucky to have the Straleys. Love the SU hat! Love, Meg
Hello Straleys from the McCotters.
As I read your blog I was laughing and crying both at the same time. Go figure....
We can't wait to meet Nyah and hear Caleb's point of view of this grand adventure. His blog is awesome, I'll have Maggie & Mitch read it when they get home from school.
You all are truly blessed, but not as blessed as Nyah is.
Be safe and we'll see you soon!
Love,
Chrissie
